Likely little more than a rumor. Or at best, an intentional leak to help gauge how receptive fans would be. Either way, what do you think?

I'd love to see it. Whilst Disney hasn't been awful for Star Wars (Rogue One, Andor and first two seasons of The Mandalorian are utterly fantastic) they clearly struggle with handling pre-existing characters. They are better at creating new characters within the Star Wars universe, but when they try and take existing characters they invariably fuck it up. The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker were pretty dreadful and Obi-Wan Kenobi was pretty disappointing. And what they did with Boba Fett wasn't exactly fantastic.

And I'm not one of these negative haters of all things new; I love the prequels. I was perhaps a bit disappointed with Attack of the Clones, but I love The Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith. I don't mind The Force Awakens either, but I still wish they never made the Disney trilogy.

After the prequels there was all of this Lucas hate. But like the prequels, after Disney got involved, suddenly their reputation began to swing back in the other direction. If nothing else, the response to Lucas involvement would certainly bring a lot of renewed publicity. The question then, regardless of the quality of whatever his project turns out to be, is will things go right back to Lucas hate? Or have people learned their lesson?

I still think a lot of people hate the prequels even with the Disney disaster. I never understood it, I really, really enjoyed them. Even Attack of the Clones had some great moments. I get that they were not as good as the OT but not much is. I also understood people's annoyance at the over-reliance on CGI that wasn't quite where it needed to be technologically, which meant it lacked some of the magic that the on location or mega set world the OT was filmed in.

I genuinely believe that had they waited another 10 years for the prequels, Lucas with his hands on the available technological advances could have made them incredible. His world-building skills are up there with Herbert and Tolkien. Maybe he'll get that opportunity now?

At the risk of sounding like an apologists, I think a lot of people don't really understand "George Lucas." And they certainly underestimated him after the prequels when it came time for Disney to make the sequels. What Lucas does intentionally looks like "pulp" fiction from his childhood on one level. But its also meticulously constructed, inspired by tradition, and deliberately taps into and pushes a lot of very real 'buttons' that are part of the human psyche. Its not easily recreated, period. But in the course of underestimating it, those who have tried have also had to contend with how we've all changed as people and civilizations since the original films were released. A lot of people thought/think they want 1977 all over again, without even realizing that they are no longer who they used to be. New Star Wars needs to be a progression from old Star Wars, not a monument to it. That's why, warts and all. the prequels work better than the sequels.
