Yeah, 6 of 8. I assume there will be another season... I know there is supposed to be a Dave Filoni movie to tie all post ROTJ era shows together, but it doesn't feel like we're that far enough along to jump directly there.

Two good episodes in a row with two more to go. Hopefully they stick the landing.

That would be worth seeing.

I get that big budget theatrical movies have the greatest profit potential, but given that the TV shows they're doing right now for streaming, which pretty much feel like movies broken up into several episodes, I'm kind of shocked that they have done a TV or "streaming" only Star Wars or Marvel movie yet on Disney Plus. I can't help but wonder if it might be a better place for a movie that wraps up these shows than sending something to the theaters when we know darn well that the viewership numbers show that these shows are not reaching an audience anywhere near the size of the audience that shows up for the typical star wars movie. If they make this movie and release it to theaters I suspect that there are millions of people who call themselves "star wars fans" but who never get beyond the movies who may find themselves feeling confused by what they're seeing.. having not watched the shows.

That's a good point to be fair. My old man calls himself a Star Wars fan and took in all of the Disney trilogy at the cinema, and Rogue One, but he hasn't watched a minute of The Mandalorian and probably doesn't even know there have been two Andor series and probably couldn't tell you who Ahsoka is.

This relates to a bigger issue with the way media is distributed these days. There are too many "exclusives" that are only found on one platform or the other. Aside for senselessly giving up revenue streams, its created this weirdly fragmented entertainment world where there are suddenly "hit TV shows" that majority of the population have never seen nor, in some cases, heard of.

Starting it now.

I only dipped in and out of Star Wars Rebels, is that going to be an issue?

I've seen barely any of rebels myself. I was all in for The Clone Wars, but when Disney abruptly cancelled it and pushed out Rebels I gave Rebels a try but just didn't find myself getting hooked.

I wouldn't call Rebels completely necessary, but it appears that its helpful. While I haven't seen it, I have listened to enough podcasts to understand enough of what I missed.

My kids watched the first three seasons and I paid loose attention to them, so have a rough idea, but they never watched season four. Definitely felt like it would have been useful to watch it first.

I thought the first episode was ok. I definitely found my attention wandering elsewhere on a couple of occasions and had to rewind, but I'm looking forward to watching the next one.

I don't want to taint your experience, but in my opinion it doesn't really get going for a few episodes. The early episodes are arguably a build up to what comes next, and I'm all about patient. But even if you consider it "build up," its just too damn subtle to be intentional. I think those episodes are probably just plain old weak. But 5 and 6 are a lot better. Good enough for me to renew Disney + for another month to see parts 7 and 8.
