The first one is a work of art. If, from time to time, you like to be emotionally challenged and feel uncomfortable feelings, you'll love the first film. Calling it "Joker" was either unnecessary or a stroke of genius. By virtue of his inclusion it becomes a "comic book movie," but you could have easily made it all about an original character...and received a fraction of the attention, without the comic book audience. But if you were to say "its a comic book movie" then its easily the best 'comic book movie' ever... in that its stripped down and makes what Marvel is doing look like cartoons.

I've become quite lazy in my movie viewing lately. I don't really know what's changed as I never used to be like this, but I just don't want to be challenged from my viewing anymore. I just want either rollercoaster rides, laid-back comedy or hero movies. I guess there is enough in the real world to emotionally challenge me or make me angry that when I have the time to sit in front of a TV for two hours or visit the cinema I just want some form of feel-good escapism.

^there is nothing wrong with that. But what matters in my opinion is that you seem to understand where you are at as a viewer. You're conscious of your tastes and their fluctuations.

Absolutely. For example, I fully get that Adam Sandler movies are not art, and are often a bit crap. But it doesn't stop me having a great time watching Grown Ups with a beer in my hand!

And conversely, I kinda understand why Crash got such high praise; the reason I thought it was shit was more to do with me than the film.

I just rewatched both Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2 (available on Prime, by the way). I enjoy them both. Their dumb, but fun, heartwarming at times, and not filled with bad language.
