‘Scream 7’: Neve Campbell Returning as Sidney Prescott in New Movie from Director Kevin Williamson
https://bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3803...-prescott/

"A huge Scream 7 update has been announced by Neve Campbell this afternoon, with Campbell revealing that she’ll be back as Sidney Prescott in the upcoming Spyglass sequel.
Additionally, original Scream scribe Kevin Williamson will DIRECT the film".

I'm thrilled about this news! Its monumental, like Jamie Lee returning to Halloween, even if people don't realize it yet!

I never really got the Scream franchise. I don't think I even got as far as the third.

The first one was an important film. It revived horror and rewrote the book. Very influential.

Horror has never really been a genre I've got into. I watched Scream because I was at high school and pretty much everyone had watched it, but I never really got it. I accept that's probably on me, but all the talk at school was how it was utterly terrifying (admittedly, this was a child's perspective) but I remember watching it and not being entirely sure whether it was a horror movie or a comedy.

I like to think of Scream as, first and foremost, a commentary on the slasher genre. Beginning in the late 70's, Slashers exploded. But they became increasingly absurd and pretty much destroyed themselves in the 80's. Then Scream came around in the 90's and rewrote the book while acknowledging the existence of horror movies and pointing out their tropes.

The first Saw movie is a legitimately decent horror movie and the inspiration for lots of copycats to come. After that the quality fell off quickly for the next handful of sequels. I haven't seen any of the more recent ones, however, but the franchise seems to keep on keeping on.
