Disappointed

I'm not going to lie, when I resurrected this place a few weeks ago, I didn't have any ambitions of dozens of old-timers flooding back to the place, but I had hoped that a few people would call in and participate.

Here we are with just Ceel and me, with a couple of posts from Spark Vallen, and you might think that it was all a waste of time (and given my lack of abilities and skills, it did take a good few hours working out how to get this thing in the state it is!).

But do you know what? I don't regret it. Somehow, I feel an achievement in just making TGC a presence on the internet again. Even if no one posts on it, at least it is now an option for anyone who might one day punch it into a search engine. And if nothing else, it's created the opportunity for me to catch up with an old internet acquaintance in Ceel. For sure, I've never met the bloke in person but I've "known" him for 23 years, which is longer than I've known my wife.

I'll keep this board going, if only so there is a place to pop by and post some nonsense, even if that's just who is currently online. Because the internet doesn't feel complete without The Gungan Council.

I'm was hammered on imperial stouts the afternoon TGC finally closed its doors. Up until that point I guess I felt like you did. I was long over the idea of having a busy board like in the old days, but I would have been happy with a handful of people hanging out every few days and being a community without the cynicism and drama you find everywhere else online these days.

After we closed that last board I eventually resigned myself to the idea that TGC was done for good. It looked like TGC had become yet another past glory - present failure that it was time for me to move on from (like our local running club that I managed for a decade but could do nothing about the growing indifference of the community.) I get it, people change. But personally, I only ever change slowly, and have a history of hanging on to things long past their expiration date.

Although I almost emailed you a couple of times early on after the last board closed, I eventually moved on. But I was surprised and happy to get your email. The last few weeks have been invigorating. I really enjoyed digging up our history to preserve, and I was hopeful that we might draw a few people in. Clearly that hasn't happened, but I'm hopeful, and will continue to work toward that goad... in whatever ways I can short of joining social media again.

I'm game to check in a couple times each day and see what you are up to. That's a routine I became quite familiar with across TGC's history.

Hwo! Great to see you. Apologies, we don't actually have access to contact details for old members as all the old boards are dead.

I dumped some links on other boards and in Discord servers but that's pretty frowned upon these days.

Ceel and I have been chatting to ourselves for a while and tricking search engines into thinking we're active so that if anyone is hit by a wave of nostalgia then we'll be well placed in Google, etc.

Spark Vallen popped by but didn't hang around ?
