Struggling for motivation. I've only been out twice in the past 8 days, 9 including today.

I could go for an evening run but I struggle getting out there after working.

To use a cliche - "the struggle is real!"

We finally had a nice day here, which helps, but we have another round of rains heading our way over the next few days. When I was a younger man I didn't let mother nature bother me too much, but its just so difficult to find and maintain the motivation that I need to get re-started when I have to think about the world around me as well as the world inside me.

I'm possibly being a bit hard on myself. After all, I got out for two runs on holiday and whilst I did take my running shoes and sports clothes, I didn't really expect to use them. We also followed up our 16km cycle ride with a 20km ride on Saturday. We did a route that took us to the Netherlands/Belgium border so can say we did a cycle ride across two countries. For a native of the increasingly isolationist United Kingdom, it really was depressing how irrelevant the border was, and how we would have been welcomed into the Schengen area but have too much of an ignorant jingoistic section of society that will never permit closer association with our European neighbours. Now we're out of the EU that dream of closer integration is even further away. I'm eligible for an Irish passport, but it would be a waste of time and money as my wife and children wouldn't be. I'd have definitely cleared out of here for somewhere in mainland Europe if I didn't have children.

Anyway, that went off on a bit of a tangent. I really am miserable tonight.

Although we don't have quite the same border situation here in the USA, there are some similarities. We have ignorant isolationists disguising their racism as concern over the Mexico border. They cry about security, drugs and jobs, but then fail to do anything productive to manage the situation. Truthfully, they'd rather have a hot button issue to complain about than a solution. Meanwhile, the Canadian border has always been easier. I guess they figure only good white people come from that direction or something. Even so, even going back to the 9/11 era I remember it becoming more annoying to try and cross back into the USA after visiting Canada.

The way the world changed following World War 2 is the reason why we never had World War 3. The cooperation, treaties, and opening of borders connected everybody for mutual benefit. Now people are threatening to tear all of that down. They think they're benefiting themselves by retreating from the global community. But that couldn't be further from the truth. When we depend on each other we protect each other.

4 miles to kick off my morning. Another nice day, for a change.

I did about 10 miles cycling today, no run though so it'll be two weeks in a row without hitting my weekly 20km target, unless I can get in a couple of long runs in before Sunday.

I did a 6.5km on Thursday. I had the window for a run just now but didn't take it. Silly as I'm going to the Norwich game later so will inevitably have a few lagers, could have enjoyed them guilt free!
