Alcohol Free / Caffeine Free - March 2024 - General Ceel - 02-27-2024 Alrighty then, Danster my friend (and anyone else who might be reading!) We've been flirting with going on the wagon in our posts for many months now. Beginning February 29th (thank God for Leap Year!) and concluding March 31st (my 42nd Birthday,) I've resolved to actually pull the trigger and do it for the first time in a number of years. So I'm going not just alcohol free, but also caffeine free, for at least a month in order to better focus on getting back in shape physically, and mentally. If on March 31st I feel like I want to celebrate... I'll celebrate. Afterall, God hates a quitter! But If by then I'm feeling good and have kicked the habit, I'll try to keep it going a little longer. You are welcome to join me...... .....But even if you don't, I'll try to make a point of posting in this thread every day in March to share my progress. RE: Alcohol Free / Caffeine Free - March 2024 - Danster - 02-27-2024 I am genuinely tempted to join you. I type this with a very generous portion of scotch in front of me, having also enjoyed two pints of lager at lunch and then two pints of lager after work! The company I work for was bought out two years ago and they are only just moving us from our own office into their's. However, ours is well out of the city, whereas the new one is smack bang in the middle of the city centre, so there are 20+ bars within a 5 minute walk. I struggle massively with willpower where alcohol is concerned, so I need to do something to stop me wasting money (and piling in calories) on the two days a week I work in the office. Even as I type it I'm not entirely sure it's a realistic goal. RE: Alcohol Free / Caffeine Free - March 2024 - Danster - 02-27-2024 Caffeine free is a no go. Even if I could kick the occasional Coca-Cola, I cannot say goodbye to tea for that long! RE: Alcohol Free / Caffeine Free - March 2024 - General Ceel - 02-27-2024 Caffeine will probably be more difficult for me than the alcohol, but I'm definitely going booze free for the month. I won't feel guilty if I end up having a soda or two, but I'm gonna give it a try. RE: Alcohol Free / Caffeine Free - March 2024 - Danster - 02-27-2024 I did say that as well as giving up chocolate, sweets and crisps (chips) for Lent, I would also give up drinking alcohol at home. That got reduced to only drinking alcohol on Friday or Saturday, then this week I've completely fallen off the wagon and have drunk alcohol for six days straight. RE: Alcohol Free / Caffeine Free - March 2024 - General Ceel - 02-27-2024 Realistically, I don't think there is much real science to suggest that I actually need to give up Diet Pepsi. But I drink way too much, and I've given it up before. So I'm gonna try. RE: Alcohol Free / Caffeine Free - March 2024 - General Ceel - 02-28-2024 Started a day early on the no caffeine thing because I ran out.. so far so good. But I really want one and I've been taking Tylenol to try and ward off the inevitable headaches. RE: Alcohol Free / Caffeine Free - March 2024 - General Ceel - 02-29-2024 Awoke to an annoying caffeine withdraw headache a couple of hours before dawn this morning RE: Alcohol Free / Caffeine Free - March 2024 - Danster - 02-29-2024 We had our last day at our current office before moving to the office of the company who bought us out two years ago, so naturally went to the pub at lunch! Cutting back on alcohol starts tomorrow. Although I'm going to the Norwich game on Saturday and always have a few pints in the pub before kick off. Sunday, it can start Sunday. RE: Alcohol Free / Caffeine Free - March 2024 - General Ceel - 03-01-2024 On my third day without caffeine. Feeling quite a bit better. Had my last beer yesterday. |
